After battling with its players last year, the NFL is now throwing down with its referees.

The league fixed bayonets for a labor showdown with game officials yesterday by all but declaring an impasse and threatening to use replacement refs this fall for the second time since 2001.

The previous six year contract between the league and the NFL Referees Association expired after last season, and the owners claim stalled talks could force them to trust their $9 billion a year business and the safety of the players to a collection of small college and Arena League officials.

"In order to ensure that there is no disruption to NFL games this season, we will proceed immediately with the hiring and training of replacement officials," the league said in a statement yesterday afteoon.

The NFL's pronouncement provoked an immediate rebuke from both the referees and the players, who denounced the plan to use "scabs" and accused the league of negotiating in bad faith by recruiting potential replacements last week while talks were still being held in Washington.

According to a memo sent out earlier this month by NFL recruiting director Ron Baynes, among the candidates the league is seeking are retired officials, "lower division college officials, professional Cheap Baltimore Ravens Jerseys league officials and semi professional league officials whose window of opportunity for advancement has pretty much closed."

The referees said the league is walking away from talks after just two sessions with a federal mediator and despite what officials insisted was an offer to take a smaller pay increase than the one they negotiated in 2006.

The NFL used replacement refs in 2001 for one exhibition game and the first week of the regular season before reaching a deal shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks disrupted play. That time, things went smoothly, although one replacement official asked Jerry Rice for cheap oakley sunglasses outlet his autograph on the field for a game.

"It is Cheap Carolina Panthers Jerseys unfortunate that as referees' responsibilities are expanded that the NFL would jeopardize player health and safety and the integrity of the game by seeking amateur, underqualified referees to administer professional games," lead referee negotiator Mike Aold said.

The players also weighed in, blistering the NFL in a statement for considering using what it twice described as "scabs" that would endanger player safety, although the NFLPA didn't say if it would honor a referee picket line this fall.

"Professional athletes fake oakleys require professional referees, and we believe in Cheap Buffalo Bills Jerseys the NFL Referees Association's trained first responders," the union said in a statement. "The NFLPA will continue to monitor the league's actions in this situation."

The NFL, and especially commissioner Roger Goodell, also were emboldened yesterday by a ruling by special master Stephen Burbank that upheld Goodell's right to punish the four current and former Saints players Jonathan Vilma, Scott Fujita, Anthony Hargrove and Will Smith accused of being on field ringleaders in the Bountygate scandal.

The union had filed a grievance against Goodell's bans on the grounds the bounty program was a salary cap issue and not an on field disciplinary matter subject to the collective bargaining agreement.

Up until an hour and a half before the game when the inactives are due from each team, members of the Packers secondary thought CB Sam Shields was going to play.

Shields, who was listed as probable after missing practice with a hamstring injury, tued out not to be ready and was declared inactive.

Most notably, it forced rookie CB Micah Hyde to line up against Victor Cruz in the slot when nickel persoel was on the field. Had Shields been around, Tramon Williams, who played maybe his best game of the season, would have lined up in the slot and covered Cruz with Davon House maing the other outside position.

"It was a game time decision," said Jarrett Bush, who moved into the dime position and played solidly. "I thought he was going to play, but he couldn't. It's next man up mentality. Whoever steps up in the slot has Cheap Panthers Jerseys to step in and play and play to a standard.

"Either way, no matter who goes in there, they have to play to a standard. Whether it's Tramon, or myself, or Micah or Sam. Whoever steps in there has to play to a standard of wiing football. As a team we didn't do that."

Defensive coordinator Dom Capers hasn't been using Hyde on the outside, in part, because he's still leaing the position and isn't fast enough to cover for his experience. Shields was able to play as a rookie because even though he wasn't always using the right techniques, he made up with it with his blazing speed.

Once the Giants saw that Cruz would be matched up against a rookie in the slot, they went to him until the Packers were forced to give Hyde help over the top. In the first half, QB Eli Maing threw seven times to Cruz, completing five for 63 yards.

Not all of them were against Hyde and Cruz wasn't the only one doing damage. But the safeties never seemed to be in the right position and Cruz finished with eight catches for 110 yards.

"We just saw some things that Wholesale Arizona Cardinals Jerseys we liked, saw some opportunities that we were able to take advantage of and we did," Cruz said. "They gave us the coverages we were looking for on specific down and distances and we were able to take advantage of them."

Hyde admitted the challenge of covering Cruz in the slot was enormous, but he said he didn't back down from it and was eager to watch the film to see what he could have done better.

"Right now, I can't tell you," he said. "Maybe jamming him more at the line or getting my Christian louboutin Outlet hands on him or my leverage. I could have been better on some of those third down calls."

The players said that Capers made adjustments throughout the game, but the secondary could not shut down the Giants receivers when it absolutely had to. Some of the zone the Packers played just gave the Giants free shots over the middle and when it was man, only Williams was able to contain his man.

It was a failure on the entire defense's part not to be able to make up for Shields' absence.

"We've got to do it," Williams said. "We've got to find a way."

This defense consistently puts the Packers in a hole. When the Packers were dominant in 2011 the defense was the achilles heel. When the Niners destroyed us last year it was the defense that caved. And when the Packers desperately needed to win a couple of games during Arod's absence, it's the defense that again disappoints by forcing a backup QB to play from behind; not to mention when we need a stop late, it rarely happens. McCarthy should be blunt this week unless the defense steps up there will be wholesale changes next year. No coach and no player on that side of the ball should be safe. If you ea, or want to ea, big money, it's put up or shut up time. When the Giants started 0 6, their defense tued their season around. They've given up a total of one or two touchdowns in 4 games. Against the teams we are playing, our defense should be held to that same standard. The bottomline: The defense has to improve or many of the coaches/players should be somewhere else next season. It's that simple.

Either the players in our secondary are as dumb as a box of rocks, or they're not being coached properly. Find out what the problem is, and FIX IT! I'm tired of hearing "we'll fix that", or "we have to get better." Ray Rhodes said that after every loss when he was HC, and he was gone after a season when it was obvious we were going nowhere with him.

How many more losses do we blame on the Dom Capers defense before he is gone? 2009 when our D gave up 51 points to the CARDINALS! I don't care if they had Kurt Waer. We should have held them to at least 40. Then it's the Niners and the second coming of Joe Montana, Colin Kaepeick (kidding), shredding our defense with his arm, or his legs. No other team in the league has the trouble with him that we do. Or it's Eli "I lead the NFL in interceptions every three years" Maing, the "elite" quarterback. How does this tuover machine whip us time and time again?

And now Shields is hurt. Is there anybody on this defense who can stay healthy? I would ask a Packer defensive player to count how many players have been healthy all 10 weeks, but that player would likely get hurt using their fingers to count.

This defense has no toughness. No nastiness. I say we make them wear dresses over their uniforms until they find their balls, and start playing some football.

I'm including Marion Motley's stats here from the Cleveland Browns in the AAFC. The Bowns played in the AAFC from 1946 to 1949, and then joined the NFL in 1950. Motley played for the Browns from 1946 1953. For his career, Marion Motley gained 4,720 yards on 828 carries.

3. Bo Jackson 5.40

In his NFL career, Bo Jackson Wholesale Arizona Cardinals Jerseys ran for 2,782 yards on 515 carries, for a 5.40 yards per carry average. The third highest average for a ruing back in NFL history. Over just a four year career, Bo Jackson had TD runs of 92, 91, 73, 62, and 55 yards. He also had a 80 yard run that did not go for a TD.

Bo Jackson was such a great athlete he also played major league baseball with the Kansas City Royals. Unfortunately, his NFL career ended after just four seasons due to a bone condition called Avascular Necrosis, that forced him to get a hip replacement at age 30.

Avascular Necrosis, also called Osteonecrosis, is often associated with long term steroid use. Bo Jackson has vehemently denied that he ever used steroids.

4. Spec Sanders 5.37

Spec Sanders ran for 2,900 yards on 540 carries playing for the New York Yankees in the AAFC from 1946 to 1950. Sanders had TD runs of 75, 70, 60, 56, 56, and 52 yards in his career.

5. Bobby Mitchell 5.33

Bobby Mitchell was a hybrid player I'm including here because he primarily played ruing back for four seasons, gaining 2,297 rushing yards for the Cleveland Browns from 1958 1961. Mitchell then played for the Washington Redskins from 1962 1967, where Wholesale Buffalo Bills Jerseys he was primarily a wide receiver.

For his career, Bobby Mitchell ran for 2,713 yard on 513 carriers. His career rushing average of 5.33 yard per carry is fifth best in NFL history. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983.

6. Jim Brown 5.22

The great Jim Brown averaged 5.22 rushing yards per carry in his career. The sixth best total in NFL history, but the highest total for any ruing back who gained over 10,000 yards in his career.

For his career, Jim Brown ran for 12,312 yards on 2,359 carries. Brown played nine years in the NFL, all for the Cleveland Browns, and led the league in rushing yards eight times. He is the only player in NFL history to average over 100 rushing yards per game (104.3).

White's reality appears to be headed for a grim conclusion in the series finale of "Breaking Bad" Sunday night. His fate will be determined sometime during the second half of Sunday's Patriots Falcons game.

Thousands of viewers across New England will be to between "Breaking Bad" and the Patriots avoiding bad breaks.

Heandez was arrested in June and charged in the killing of Odin Lloyd. We note that in case NBC mentions the "Heandez situation" on this week's NFL sanctioned if not censored broadcast. In three games this season, we've heard aouncers on CBS, Fox and NFL Network discuss or briefly mention the "Heandez situation" whenever the Patriots dropped a pass or blew a third down conversion. By now, anyone watching this team knows that Heandez is in jail [he's pled not guilty] for murder and he was an important part of the team's offense last season.

Calling it a "situation" is an affront to Lloyd's memory and his family.

Friday, the screws were tightened on Heandez as he sat in jail. Prosecutors aounced three new indictments in Lloyd's killing. Indictments were handed down for Heandez's fiancee and cousin, and a new charge against Heandez's pal Carlos Ortiz.

The most telling move was the lone perjury charge against Shayaa Jenkins, who is also the mother of Heandez's infant daughter, who tus 1 next month.

"Your baby is in the other room. You can go home with her if you help us find the murder weapon."

Sing, sing, sing. Now whether the jury would believe someone who has a baby at home, would likely say whatever is necessary to be with that child [who among us wouldn't?] but was initially charged with perjury is another story.

This week, on both AMC and the turf of the Georgia Dome, the biggest truths of 2013 thus far will manifest themselves. Walter White [played by Bryan Cranston for those who don't follow the show] is pretty much at the end of his line, although for Walter, that line seems to never end.

The flip side to "Team Chemistry." A stressful night is in store for both White and his fellow mastermind Bill Belichick.

and the Patriots are not at the end of their line, but they have reached their first big tuing point of the season. The Falcons, a pre season Super Bowl pick by some including yours truly, have struggled and misfired on offense this season, sputtering to a 1 2 start.

[81 for 119 passing, 68.1 percentage with 909 yards passing, six TDs, two picks and 100 QB rating] has certainly done his best to live up to that $100 million contract extension he signed in the offseason. I'll bet that bumped up the old "Average salary of BC alumni chart" that might entice potential students.

Despite Matty Ice's numbers, the Falcons' ruing game has looked like slush. is the team's leading rusher with 102 yards on 31 carries and the team is averaging just 90 yards on the ground per game, 22nd in the league. The Patriots defense might be more successful against this bunch than initially feared.

The growing weight of the state's case and the never ending clock for someone who sits in prison will continue to chip away at Heandez. White is moving on one way or another Sunday night. Meanwhile, the Patriots will take another major step in their emerging post Heandez reality.

The Patriots offense, and particularly its inability to score touchdowns in the red zone, remains a conce. New England's 13 trips to the red zone are third in the NFL, but they have just four touchdowns, a 30.8 percent success rate which is last in the league.

The good news, they're still 3 0 and haven't have , full time, or all Cheap Falcons Jerseys those other receivers who left town for various reasons.

In the short run, it appears only the Patriots will emerge from this week's events intact. If indeed Gronk and/or Amendola play Cheap Cardinals Jerseys Sunday, it should provide Brady with enough fresh options to keep up with whatever antics Ryan has in store for New England's secondary on the fast track of the Georgia Dome. If they don't, Brady and the team's developing ruing should deep Atlanta off the field just long enough. If the Patriots actually ran the ball inside the 20, they might even score a TD now and then.

With a quarter of the NFL season in the books after Sunday night, it's also time to move on from Welker, Heandez, , , , and every other receiver who is no longer with the team. We know the Patriots screwed up by letting Welker walk over 200 million or so peies. But he's now 's binky. For your own sanity, try to limit the "Welker would have that" or the "Damn you, Heandez" outbursts to just once per game.

They're both gone and they're not coming back.

Just like Walter White after Sunday night.

Here are this week's rankings, with the team records and last week's rankings in parentheses.

1. Seahawks (3 0: 1) Coming off a bye [OK, they played Jacksonville at home, but come on . . . ] the Seahawks should be well prepared to handle the Texans' defense. and will be too elusive for and Co.

2. Broncos (3 0; 2) got a little chippy with the NFL this week, griping about the fact he and the Broncos only have six days to prepare for Chip Kelly's Eagles this week, while the Eagles have had 12 days off to get ready for Denver. Kelly's response: "[If] we got to play in a parking lot? We'll go play in a parking lot. We don't care." Philly's defense will wish it had stayed in the parking lot once the Broncos get finished with them.

3. Patriots (3 0; 4) Whoever said Brady wasn't hard on himself?

For three straight years, from 2005 08, Brady was listed as "probable shoulder" on the Patriots' weekly injury report. It was a ruing joke of sorts for all until Brady was removed from the injury report for Week 1 of the 2008 season. During the first quarter of that game, he suffered a season ending left knee injury courtesy of . Maybe it's better if Gronk and Amendola stay "questionable" until further notice.

4. Dolphins (3 0; 5) The Dolphins and GM Jeff Ireland reached a contract extension this past offseason, but word of the deal wasn't leaked out by the team until after Miami's 3 0 start. That's full disclosure compared to what we get from Foxborough. For all we know, Bill Belichick signed a life time deal with Mephistopheles before Super Bowl XXXVI.

5. Saints (3 0; 10) Someone at the ESPN scheduling stumbled into this terrific Week 6 "Monday Night Football" match up of undefeated teams. The Saints defensive front and the home field advantage should be too much for the Dolphins to handle, with or without Ireland's new contract.

6. Chiefs [sorry if you're offended] (3 0; 6) Facing the Giants at home means Cheap Ravens Jerseys a 4 0 start.

7. Bears (3 0; 11) Marc Trestman is undefeated as an NFL head coach. Bet you didn't see that one coming, .

RENTON Seahawks offensive line coach Tom Cable says the task for his position group is pretty simple these days.

get him hit, Cable says, referring to Seattle quarterback . our mantra right now. up to that goal, though, has been maybe the biggest challenge on either side of the ball for the Seahawks this season as they prepare for Monday night game at St. Louis.

By just about any metric used, Seattle pass protection has been at best an issue and at worst a problem, especially the past month when the team has been without starting right tackle and left tackle Russell Okung.

Pro Football Focus this week stated that Wilson has been pressured on 46.6 percent of pass attempts, the most of any quarterback in the NFL the average is 36 percent.

And in the NFL stat of quarterback hits, Seattle has 40, which stands Cheap Atlanta Falcons Jerseys as the ninth most.

Giacomini, who had arthroscopic surgery Sept. and Okung, out with a toe injury since mid September, are expected back in the next month. That will alleviate much of the long term conce about the pass protection.

Veteran , who started the season at right guard, has been playing left tackle in place of Okung, and rookie has replaced Giacomini. Center also missed two games, but has played the past two.

Cable says being without Okung and Giacomini means the goals for the line right now are pretty short term.

got to keep surviving and advance to the next play and come out of this thing with our quarterback standing up, Cable said. then go to the next play and try to do it again. That what we are doing don go beyond that. Because it would be ludicrous to go and say you are going to do that (go beyond surviving and advancing) with people who aren accustomed to playing out there. So just keep surviving. also holds true for Seattle hopes for Wilson, whose supreme ability to escape pressure has been put to the severest test of his two year NFL career in recent weeks.

Wilson, though, couldn get out of the way every time in last Thursday 34 22 win at Arizona, and fumbled three times, losing two of them.

Wilson has eight fumbles, five of which have been lost, each the most of any player in the NFL.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll states the obvious that the number of times Wilson has been hit, and the resulting fumbles, is a conce.

been hit pretty consistently the last three, four weeks here and that why the ball has come out and it been unfortunate, Carroll said. a huge emphasis for us to hang onto Cheap Arizona Cardinals Jerseys the football, but he getting clocked every now and then. So we working like crazy to keep that from happening. His awareness is growing and realizing that: It happening. though, says the team has the ultimate trust that Wilson will usually do the right thing.

a fantastic competitor, Carroll said. gets it. He knows what we after and what we want, and so that means that there is some risk involved, and I think that he as much of a risk taker out there than anybody playing the game. But I think that he can manage that risk really well. said he needs to continue to refine the balance of when to try to make a play and when to give in and live to fight another down.

biggest thing for me is just hold on to the ball, he said. you got to sacrifice yourself and just get down and other times, you just got to continue to step up. I always looking downfield, I always trying to find guys downfield. So it one of those things that it a happy medium, you know? said what isn an issue is handling the pounding of all those hits. Listed at 206 pounds, Wilson said he is playing this season closer to 210 and noted that he continues to work on increasing the strength in his legs to handle the rigors of his position.

never really get tired out there, he said.

Carroll, though, doesn want to risk it any more than the Seahawks already have.

don ever want him getting hit, he said. have to do a better job and keep improving. Giacomini, fullback Derrick Coleman and safety Jeron Johnson none of whom are expected to play this week Cheap Bills Jerseys were all listed as not taking part in practice Friday. Also not participating was ruing back Christine Michael, who was ill. Receiver Percy Harvin does not have to be listed on the practice reports because he is not on the active roster, so there was no report on his participation Friday.

Middle linebacker Bobby Wagner, who sat out the past two weeks with a sprained ankle, was listed as a full participant Friday, increasing the chances he will be available.

By chance, Muiz met Dorothy Truax the director of the Reynolds Home, a shelter for homeless women and children and the project director for the Homeless Youth Program with the Opportunity Center for the Homeless in El Paso. She informed Muiz of a new homeless shelter in the Segundo Barrio whose focus is keeping the family unit together in one facility.

Muiz was the first resident of the Willie Sanchez Rosales Family Center, a facility founded Wholesale Buffalo Bills Jerseys by Joe and Rose Rosales in memory of their son.

"Our son suffered from bipolar disorder and manic depression," Joe Rosales said. "As a result of his illness, he was homeless from time to time with the family having no knowledge of his whereabouts. Though we had the resources to help our son, it was difficult to treat his mental illness."

Willie Sanchez Rosales passed away more than 10 years ago. Rose Rosales passed away a few months ago.

"It was her dream to open this shelter to provide a warm and loving place for men, women and children to reside, regardless of the circumstances surrounding their battle with homelessness." Joe Rosales said.

Faith Rivera, 18 months, plays with a ball in a living room area of the recently opened Willie Sanchez Rosales Family Center at 510 S. Oregon.

The new shelter, which opened Sept. 1 at the site of the former El Paso Children's Day Care, is run by the Opportunity Center for the Homeless. The shelter at 510 S. Oregon accepts all family structures, including dual parent families (mother, father and children), single fathers with children or families with teenage boys.

"What we have seen are families being forced into unsafe situations that include sleeping in area shopping center parking lots, doubling up with relatives, and frequently couch hopping from family member to family member," said Ray Tullius, executive director of the Opportunity Center for the Homeless. "This uncertainty impacts the family unit, but, more importantly, also negatively impacts the well being of the children who don't understand what's going on around them."

There are four families about 15 men, women and children living at the two story Willie Sanchez Rosales Family Center right now.

"Our goal is to keep the family together," said Luke Lucas, project coordinator at family center. "The only requirements we have is they have to be a family unit and the parents have to be willing to look for work or working themselves. We ask them for a copy of the application they tu in or a business card from the employer. The kids have to be in day care or in school. That's it. It doesn't matter if they have documents; we will work with them on that."

Residents share kitchen space, a community room and restrooms. There is a backyard playground with grass for the children.

The food the residents eat and the toiletries come from grant funds and community donations.

"Morehead Middle School just donated a bunch of toiletries like shampoo, tissue paper, soap, deodorant and toothbrushes," Lucas said. "That's the kind of things our residents use everyday. That's the stuff we really need."

Funding for renovation on the second floor was secured in part through the City of El Paso Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs Homeless Housing and Services Program Housing Trust Fund allocation, along with private contributions and community support.

The Opportunity Center for the Homeless is working in conjunction with the Rosales family to raise money for the completion of the renovations for the family center's first floor. About $250,000 is needed to build restrooms, bedrooms and other living facilities.

"This was always a dream of my mother's," Angelica Talavera said of her mother, Rose Rosales, "Seeing my brother go through what he did was really difficult for my mom. It was heartbreaking for her, so one of the things she wanted to do was start a shelter for the homeless. A lot of times people are not aware of the circumstances that lead to homelessness. You never know what people are struggling with."

Resident Celina Coria, 28, her husband and two daughters 2 year old Unique and 1 year old Faith, found their way to the family shelter last week.

"This place saved us," Coria said. "We were at the Salvation Army for three weeks, but there was a conflict with my husband and we got kicked out. If it wasn't for this place, I would be out on the street with my babies, probably sleeping in the park."

She said being at the shelter has given her newfound confidence.

"My husband is looking for a job," she said. "Matter of fact, he's had a few job interviews already. Because of their help, I'm going back to get my GED starting Dec. 2. I wouldn't be able to do that alone. Once I go back to school, I can find a job, too."

Muiz said he volunteers around the family center while looking for a job himself.

"I sell cheesecakes, I make them homemade right here," Muiz said proudly. "I've worked in a lot of restaurants. I went from a dish washer to a fry cook to a line cook. That's what I want to do. But for now, I try to do as much as I can because they help me out a lot with diapers, shampoo, whatever we need. I can't give them money, but I can help them out by keeping the place clean and doing whatever I can do."

Victor R. Martinez can be reached Cheap Panthers Jerseys at 915 546 6128.

The careers of Dolphins guard Richie Incognito, center left, and tackle Jonathan Martin remain on hold.(Photo: AP)

"Tough is not a physical state," former NFL defensive coordinator Greg Blache told USA TODAY Sports. "Football is such a mental game. The toughness is more mental.

UPDATE: Dolphins drama continues

AROUND THE LEAGUE: What players are saying about hazing

"If you're confident in your techniques, you play faster. It michael kors outlet online looks more aggressive and physical, but it's really about mental toughness."

Blache's definition is intriguing because it might run counter to first glance intuitions about the brutal, violent sport.

With injuries occurring at a record pace and the physical condition of retired players generating more awareness than ever, the toughness is more mental?

"You don't have to be a savage animal to play in the NFL," Blache said. It's a misconception."

Martin filed a complaint contending Russell Wilson Authentic Jersey that bullying from guard Richie Incognito at least some of which was captured cheap red bottom shoes on a racially charged and threatening voicemail contributed to him leaving the team last week. He has sought counseling.

Yet those actions, in the macho NFL culture, have in some arenas tued against Martin to fuel questions about his toughness.

Even Martin's high school coach wondered whether his former player, a low key Stanford grad, would fit in with more aggressive personalities in NFL locker rooms from different types of programs.

Vic Eumont, the coach at Harvard Westlake in Califoia, told The Palm Beach Post that because of Martin's academically rich background, he's the perfect target to be bullied.

"I just feel like you have to be mentally tough at some level to take jokes and stuff," Dolphins offensive tackle Bryant McKiie told USA TODAY Sports on Thursday. "It wasn't like he was getting beat up."

The Sun michael kors outlet Sentinel reported this week, citing uamed sources, that coaches asked Incognito to toughen up Martin after he missed two days of voluntary workouts last spring.

As the NFL investigation unfolds, confirming the facts related to the report which might ultimately cost jobs is essential.

One thing is certain: Incognito's tactics backfired.

Martin's camp, meanwhile, has counterattacked.

"Jonathan Martin's toughness is not at issue," attoey David Cowell, representing Martin, said in a statement released Thursday. "Jonathan has started every game with the Miami Dolphins (before his departure) since he was drafted in 2012. At Stanford, he was the anchor for Jim Harbaugh's 'smash mouth' brand of football and he protected Andrew Luck's blind side.

"The issue is Jonathan's treatment by his teammates. Jonathan endured harassment that went far beyond the traditional locker room hazing."

Although Dolphins coach Joe Philbin has maintained that he had no knowledge of issues between Martin and Incognito, it's not clear whether offensive line coach Jim Tuer or other coaches had an inkling of problems or tactics.
